Developing AI Skills in the Maritime Sector: A New Training Program by the CSMOIM and Vooban

Quebec City, September 15, 2026—The Comité sectoriel de main-d'oeuvre de l'industrie maritime (CSMOIM) is proud to announce a new partnership with artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation expert Vooban to offer the Quebec maritime sector a comprehensive training program designed to develop AI skills and support the industry's technological transition.

As AI rapidly transforms the way we work, the maritime workforce must develop new skills to take full advantage of these technologies. Although many organizations already use AI for administrative tasks, its potential extends far beyond drafting emails or summarizing documents.

Through this new program, the CSMOIM aims to support workers and organizations in the maritime sector as they develop their AI skills. The goal is to promote practical, value-added applications while raising participants' awareness of the data governance, ethical, and cybersecurity issues surrounding the adoption of these technologies.

An Accessible, Practical and Customizable Learning Path

The learning path consists of 7 standalone courses totaling 10 hours of content. Each course can be taken independently. Participants can therefore choose to enroll in a single course or combine several courses based on their needs and professional circumstances. This flexible approach allows everyone to build a learning path tailored to their goals.

Aligned with the realities of the maritime sector, the courses offer a combination of theory, practical demonstrations, and guided workshops, enabling participants to quickly apply what they've learned in their workplace.

Participants will be able to:

• Understand the fundamental concepts of AI and generative AI;
• Discover the main AI tools available on the market;
• Learn to distinguish between convenience-driven and transformative uses;
• Identify optimization opportunities tailored to their organizational and operational context;
• Evaluate and prioritize AI projects;
• Understand the challenges related to data governance, ethics, and cybersecurity.

The course content will draw on examples inspired by real-world situations in the maritime sector, particularly in the areas of document management, compliance, operations, maintenance, human resources, and communications.

The program will be rolled out in two cohorts—one in the fall of 2026 and one in the winter 2027—and will consist of an asynchronous training via a video module and six synchronous training sessions offered live, remotely.
