MPR Workshop: The Maritime Industry and Regulatory Authorities Will Meet on March 18
Quebec City, March 9, 2026 — The Human Resources Sectorial Committee of the Maritime Industry (CSMOIM) invites all maritime industry stakeholders to join representatives from Transport Canada (TC) and the Institut maritime du Québec's Emergency Measures Training Centre (CFMU) at the regulatory workshop on the Marine Personnel Regulations (MPR) on March 18.
This annual event is one of the few opportunities for employers and TC representatives to discuss matters directly, while providing employers with access to up-to-date, accessible, and immediatly applicable information on regulations affecting seafarers.
A workshop designed for employers
The maritime industry operates within a demanding and constantly changing regulatory framework. To support employers in their compliance obligations, the workshop aims to:
- inform the industry about the application of and changes to the MPR and the STCW Convention
- simplify the requirements related to the training and certification of seafarers
- share the CSMOIM and CFMU's training development and adaptation projects
''This workshop, which is now being held for the 18th time, directly responds to a need expressed by the industry, namely to clearly understand the rules that apply to their crews and to be able to submit their questions to the competent authorities. It is a space for dialogue, collaboration, and solutions.'' — Manou Bernard, Executive Director, CSMOIM
Key topics for regulatory compliance
Participants will attend presentations covering several key topics, including updates on the MPR project, restricted patents (bridge – engine room), calculation of sea time, and more. See the detailed invitation for the day's topics.
A unique opportunity to interact with regulatory authorities
Beyond the presentations, the workshop focuses on interaction: employers will benefit from privileged access to TC representatives, a rare opportunity to engage directly with regulatory authorities and obtain targeted answers to their questions in order to strengthen their organization's compliance.
