Launch of a Survey on Overall Compensation and Workplace Well-being in Quebec's Maritime Industry

Quebec City, March 23, 2026—The Comité sectoriel de main-d'oeuvre de l'industrie maritime (CSMOIM) announces the launch of a survey on total compensation and workplace well-being in Quebec’s maritime industry.

Conducted in partnership with Gallagher, the survey will provide precise and comparable benchmarks, particularly regarding direct compensation (base salary, pay structure, bonuses), benefits (group insurance, pension plans, paid leave), non-monetary incentives (schedules, telework, professional development, recognition), and working conditions (work environment, work-life balance, health and safety).

The results will be segmented in detail—by organization size and profile, region, and type of business—to enhance the relevance of the data and facilitate comparison among employers.

A strategic approach that benefits both employers... and employees

The survey will address several pressing needs, including enabling comparisons of compensation practices and ensuring fair, equitable, and competitive pay; strengthening organizations’ ability to attract skilled workers and retain their experienced workforce; by helping employers adapt their internal policies to current labor market trends; and by supporting better adaptation to economic fluctuations, thereby promoting the financial stability of the workforce.

A detailed report will be shared exclusively with participating companies. It will include a comprehensive analysis of 16 key jobs in Quebec’s maritime industry—both at sea and on land—a consolidated overview of total compensation policies, and concrete recommendations aimed at supporting HR decisions and optimizing working conditions.

The data collected will be treated as strictly confidential and anonymized. No individual results will be disclosed: only aggregated data will be published.

An essential tool for the industry’s competitiveness

The survey results will also be used to update the job descriptions and industry information posted on the sectorial committee’s website (csmoim.qc.ca) and the maritime training and career promotion campaign DON’T MISS THE BOAT! (embarque.ca), contributing to a better understanding of compensation in the industry and providing incentives for the next generation, who will gain a clearer picture of the attractive salaries in the maritime sector.

Take part in the survey today! Your participation is essential to producing reliable data that will benefit the entire industry.
