Canadian Regulations for Officers—New Training Available in English

Québec City, August 18, 2026—The Comité sectoriel de main-d'oeuvre de l'industrie maritime (CSMOIM) is proud to announce that its online training course, Canadian Regulations for Officers, is now available in English. This new version expands access to a recognized skills development tool and allows a greater number of officers and employers to benefit from specialized training on Canadian maritime regulations.

Developed in partnership with the maritime industry and in collaboration with the Collège de Rimouski, this training program addresses the sector’s needs regarding the understanding and application of regulatory requirements governing commercial shipping in Canada. In addition, the translation of this training program was made possible thanks to financial support from CSL, Desgagnés, and the Seafarers' International Union of Canada.

A Practical Tool for the Maritime Industry

The Canadian Regulations for Officers training course is a strategic tool designed for authorized representatives and shipowners who support their officers throughout their professional development and certification processes with Transport Canada. It is also intended for individuals who wish to familiarize themselves with Canadian maritime regulations or deepen their knowledge to better understand the industry’s requirements and certification pathways.

More specifically, this training program aims to:

• Promote a better understanding and application of maritime laws and regulations in Canada;
• Equip employers to effectively support the skills development of their crews;
• Support officers’ certification and career advancement efforts;
• Contribute to maintaining a skilled workforce that meets Canadian maritime requirements.

By making this training program available both in English and French, the CSMOIM helps enhance the appeal of the Canadian and Quebec maritime industries while providing employers with a skills development tool tailored to their specific needs.

A Training Tailored to Various Officer Profiles

Four trainings tracks are offered:

1. Marine Mechanical Engineering Officer – Operations Level (30 hours)
2. Marine Mechanical Engineering Officer – Management Level (45 hours)
3. Navigation Officer – Operations Level (30 hours)
4. Navigation Officer – Management Level (45 hours)

A Flexible Format That Fits the Maritime Reality

Offered entirely online, the training is accessible for a period of 60 days following registration. Participants can therefore progress at their own pace and plan their learning around their schedules and work commitments; this flexible format addresses the operational realities of the maritime sector and allows participants to take the training anywhere, whether on board a ship or ashore.
